Islay Distilleries

9 and counting!

As at May 2019 there are nine active distilleries on Islay; Ardbeg, Ardnahoe, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, Lagavulin and Laphroaig.  Each has their own character and each produces very different and distinctive whisky from the same raw ingredients of water, barley and yeast.  If you come to Islay you must visit at least one distillery.  For the more adventurous (some might say foolhardy) you can feasibly visit all nine in the same day...a bit of a rush but it can be done.  All distilleries have an extensive tour and tasting programme to suit all tastes.  Let Dougie at Islay Tours & Private Hire put together an itinerary for you to enjoy.    Slainte!
