Lords of the Isles
The Lord of the Isles is an historical title held by rulers of the islands and west coast mainland of Scotland from the late 9th century to the late 15th century. At their height they were the most powerful lords in Britain after the Kings of England and Scotland. They exercised fiscal and martial power from their seat at Finlaggan and their naval fortress at Dunyvaig (featured). Both these places are now but a shadow of their former glory, but are still well worth a visit.

P.S. Prince Charles is the current Lord of the Isles. This is one of the titles held by him as the oldest son of the reigning monarch. He visited Finlaggan on 26th June 2015 where he took part in the formal Lord of the Isles inauguration ceremony.
